Racism, sexism, idiocy wins with Trump
But I still thank Vice President Kamala Harris for trying to save America
I never intended to keep One Black Woman’s Vote updated after Election Day. I sincerely hoped President Joe Biden and then Vice President Kamala Harris would win to continue on with former President Barack H. Obama’s productive, inclusive and rational work for eight years, and this would just be one of those Substack series I’d revisit for fun. I was truly hoping VP Harris would save America from its racist, sexist and tone deaf past to continue toward improving.
I have a hard time understanding the logic in someone who would hire a financial planner after filing for bankruptcy multiple times, and then ask him to take on the budget of an entire country.

I have little regard for those who judge a woman’s right to her body but have never donated a dollar to a foster care location a day in their lives — or adopted any of the 606K foster children each year.
I have no interest in humoring the same people who dress up in Confederate attire and fight for flags and statues of slaveowners and still don’t see the irony in in your uproar over Critical Race Theory — or history books in general.

I have zero respect for women who toggle between calling a certain type of woman angry and then getting upset because she has the audacity to laugh and smile too.
But I love a legitimate ally. She made me cry all over again after the meditation morning (see below).
I have a hard time respecting men who would choose for women to have no rights to their bodies, knowing full well the person they voted for has zero issues with deporting you and that same woman — and calling you “trash” on your way to the border.
I’m appalled by any woman who just didn’t like the candidate for being a little too pretty. This is not high school.
I worry about the safety of mothers, girlfriends, wives, sisters and cousins who are surrounded by men who assume every woman who says she’s been raped must be a “liar” or an “opportunist.” And if you laugh when men are raped, I question your upbringing — and hope you have no sons.

I’m annoyed by those who are delusional enough to believe black women who are prosecutors or gun owners must be “conservative” — a startlingly ignorant complaint considering that same prosecutor put child molesters in prison and the National African American Gun Association has 45,000 members — 48% of which are women. With Roe v. Wade overturned by the Supreme Court, who do you think will defend these rape victims in their homes and court?
I have a hard time comprehending why any sane person would vote for Trump.

I toggled between three news channels on ROKU yesterday from 8 a.m. until 2 a.m. When Hillary Clinton lost, I cried on my couch. This time, I said I was not going to cry. I was pissed. I took a shower and immediately buried myself in my comforter and fell asleep. This morning, I laid down on my yoga mat to do my morning meditation, and I didn’t even realize I was crying until I felt my dog’s paws on my shoulder and her licking the tears off my face. (I never let her lick my face. This time? It was comforting.)

I have a sign in my dining room that says, “Dogs Welcome. People Tolerated” and it couldn’t be more fitting. In 2016, I side-eyed everybody who I thought had the potential to be a Trump supporter. But now? I’m too baffled to even bother. To vote for a man who ignored an entire plan for how to handle coronavirus — leading to more than 1 million deaths and 99 million cases — and then got it, only to then try to give it to his Secret Service reps — is beyond me.
I’ve said all I can say about the kind of racism, sexism, self-hatred and bigotry one must be drowning in to vote against someone trying to help an entire nation advance to vote for someone who has no problem killing them, whether that’s through lack of health insurance or shrugging off a pandemic.
It’s going to take me some time to shake this one off. I’m not turning on the news at all. I don’t want to hear Harris’ concession speech. I wanted so badly to hear about her winning while at her alma mater. I cringe at what’s to come of Trump’s Project 2025 plan for the next four years and how many ways he’ll ignore the Constitution. I don’t like him. I don’t respect him. I abhor him. You lost, America, and you chose to lose when you never had to.

Thank you to the remaining 67 million voters who were not in these states but supported the Democratic ticket. The rest of you? I couldn’t be more disappointed. And the problem is your vote (or sitting at home and not voting) drags the rest of us down with you. Thanks for absolutely nothing.
