VP Kamala Harris owning a gun does not make her 'Conservative Lite'
The moment the vice president admitted she was a registered gun owner was met with mixed responses
I didn’t think I could hear anything more illogical than cat sandwiches and accusations of Vice President Kamala Harris smuggling NOVA H1 audio earrings during her first presidential debate a week ago. And yet, I have. On a recent podcast, a black British woman (who I can only mute sufficiently when I’m on my laptop) described the VP as “Conservative Lite” for owning a gun.
Yes, there is such a thing as NAAGA — and be careful when you pronounce it.
My face went through every possible expression at how ridiculous this sounds — even if I don’t go back down the Silk Press Road again. On an everyday American level, being a gun owner does not magically make you a Conservative. If that was the case, then every gang banger I knew throughout my entire childhood should’ve been way more interested in Republicans. (OK, the ones who are still alive and not currently in prison.)
If being a gun owner makes you a conservative, then that means every single person in the military must keep a MAGA hat nearby. If being a gun owner makes you a conservative, then there are a lot of Madeas in the world who keep voting for the wrong person. Never in my wildest dream would I assume all 94% of black women who voted for Hillary Clinton and 93% for President Joe Biden are all blinking their eyelashes profusely and have no idea what that pointy thing does.
I dare you to run up on House Rep. Jasmine Crockett and call her a conservative. See if her response doesn’t have her creating a new trademark about you and ordering T-shirts before you can get ready for bed.

Every last person I know who is a gun owner is a Democrat or a Liberal. The veteran who took me to a shooting range to learn how to properly operate a gun: Liberal. My grandfather, who would start lecturing me about voting for women before I could take my coat off and was also a gun-owning veteran: Liberal. My godmother and one godsister who thought they were Al Pacino one New Year’s Eve: Liberal.
Owning a gun is not a hardcore Republican-only thing to do. Granted, Pew Research polls will have some people believing that Dems wouldn’t touch a gun for a bag of winning lottery tickets. But even in their polls, 20% of Democrats and Democratic leaners own guns. Granted, that number is more than double (45%) for Republicans, but this group does exist.
Women who experience domestic violence are also among those showing interest in gun ownership, said Akeithea Bost, an Atlanta-area firearms instructor who works with the National African American Gun Association, to Bloomberg. Yes, there is such a thing as NAAGA — and be careful when you pronounce it.

To my absolute amazement, and this is my first time hearing this nonsensical argument, somehow Harris was summarized as “more conservative than Trump” for being a gun owner. Can somebody let all these people involved in gang rivalries know they’re Republicans? I don’t think they got the memo. Next time you see somebody Crip Walking by, ask him what his political affiliation is and stick around for the answer. Have you ever even seen a Blood wearing a MAGA cap from 2016 to now? Even one? (The Game clearly isn’t.)
I saw more gang members doing whatever their local celebratory dance was to Nipsey Hussle’s “F**k Donald Trump” than I ever saw anyone at all wearing a MAGA hat. And no, none of these people were saying, “Say no to guns.”
Then, the conversation went right back to the same tired points about her being a prosecutor — and totally ignored countless times when she discussed a childhood friend being raped by her stepfather, and all the child molesters and rapists she locked up. (I really wish that little girl who was molested by her older brother would’ve been mentally capable of speaking up for herself. That chapter in the book makes me sad every single time.)

This is just plain lazy. To watch a brutal beating in intellectualism and sum it up as “Kamala is a conservative” is beyond comprehension to me. This make-believe silk press grudge has a certain group of women — and sadly, a black, anti-Obama woman — just trying to find new reasons not to like her. I’m just waiting for the “she thinks she’s cute” gripes to be heard. That’s the only thing missing.
At least if you’re not going to like the lady and fling every single piece of spaghetti to the wall to decide why, find a credible one that sticks.
Writer's note to October 10: I tried to keep listening to the podcast to support Trevor Noah, but Josh Johnson hasn't been on the last few episodes. And she is now in Trevor's one-on-one episodes. I tapped out.
