How is Shannon R. Watts going to rally white women around VP Kamala Harris?
Wife of firefighter who was killed at Trump's attempted-assassination rally still won't take Biden's phone calls
Writer's note on July 26: I hope she proves my whole post wrong. I am definitely proud of her record-breaking turnout. I just need to see this Zoom turnout mirror the November polls, and it's a sweep.

I think Shannon R. Watts (founder of Moms Demand Action) means well with her upcoming July 25 virtual meeting/political campaign. A bold statement like this one (below) is clearly trying to get white women to rally behind current Vice President Kamala Harris as the 2024 Democratic presidential nominee. The problem is she’s going to have to do a lot of sifting to find the Jane Elliotts when the Marjorie Taylor Greenes are more common voters in her demographic. Even after major and traumatic events, the latter group is still loyal to their base.
Need an example? Look no further than the New York Post article about Helen Comperatore, the wife of Corey Comperatore (the firefighter who was killed at an attempted assassination of Donald Trump on July 13).
The inexplicable loyalty of white women to Trump
If the “grab them by the pussy” Access Hollywood recording and 26 sexual assault accusations from white women didn’t make other white women distance themselves from Trump as a presidential nominee, I’m at a loss for what would make them (especially Republican white women) unlearn everything they’ve been programmed to believe is superior. White men who do NOT “grab them by the pussy” seem to really get under their skin though.
When President Joe Biden called the widow after the shooting, Helen dodged his phone calls like he was a pesky neighbor.
“I didn’t talk to Biden,” Helen told the New York Post from her Pennsylvania home on July 15. “I didn’t want to talk to him. My husband was a devout Republican, and he would not have wanted me to talk to him.”
I get why Trump hadn’t called her yet — he was being treated for his later-bandaged ear. After his bandage appearance, I looked around to see if he did more than this speech to reach out to the widow. I don’t see much.

Regardless, someone planned to shoot him. I do not disagree with him having a moment to sit in his own silence (after the photo op, the fist raise, finding his shoe). But what makes no sense at all is the widow declaring “I don’t have any ill will toward Joe Biden. I’m not one of those people that gets involved in politics” followed by, “I support Trump. That’s who I’m voting for.”
How can someone not “get involved in politics” but then immediately declare who they’re voting for and refuse any condolence call from the opposition because her husband “would not have wanted me to talk to him”? Biden didn’t physically harm Trump nor her husband; Thomas Matthew Crooks did.

I don’t knock the united front as a married couple. Every happily married couple I know tends to operate like teammates. Even if they bicker in the locker room, once they face the public, they stand together. I get that part. I even get not wanting to be too chummy with someone you won’t vote for. But it’s a courtesy call, and Biden doesn’t strike me as the type to try to sneak in an election pitch. If she can take time to be interviewed by the New York Post, she can take Biden’s call.

A grown woman describing who she is allowed to talk to on the phone sounds like something children say when they’re put on punishment. It’s a level of control I’ll never understand. Maybe it’s because I’ve never been married. Maybe it’s because the black and married women I know tend to still be vocal about their independent thoughts. Or, maybe white women’s loyalty to Trump is just something I’ll never comprehend, especially not after the results of Hillary Clinton’s election.

What is the game plan for Shannon R. Watts?
Why isn’t Watts drinking the same loyalty Kool-Aid? How did she not get caught up in what seems to be a political pattern of defending racism, sexism, homophobia, Islamophobia, xenophobia, anti-immigration, anti-reparations, anti-accurate-American history and anti-black businesses — all for the sake of keeping condescending, woman-loathing, dictating white men in charge?
