For the next 28 days, I will treat Trump like he treats Black History Month
This insignificant man will be blocked from me to focus on those who are not afraid of him
I woke up this morning all set to doomscroll before I checked off my to-do list, but I just could not tolerate the sound of Trump's voice on the first day of Black History Month. So I started going to various websites to see if these supposedly pro-Black History Month and pro-Juneteenth capitalists had that same energy in 2025 that they had years ago. Some do. Some do not. This trivial little man is even trying to brainwash my go-to for health info: the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention site after getting rid of WHO.
I cannot control governmental websites. I cannot control some of these retailers. I can, however, control myself. My ongoing boycott against Target happened long before the anti-DEI news, but I still want to support Black-owned businesses that this retail chain loved to plaster everywhere in their online and brick-and-mortar stores pre-Trump. As an Amazon influencer who is adamant about featuring Black-owned, woman-owned and veteran-owned businesses, I will continue with my Amazon partner work. (If they wipe out those pages, I reevaluate my decision.)

As an Amazon affiliate, I earn a percentage from purchases with my referral links. I know some consumers are choosing to boycott Amazon for its DEI removal. However, after thinking about this thoroughly, I choose to continue promoting intriguing products from small businesses, women-owned businesses and (specifically) Black-owned businesses who still feature their items on Amazon. All five of my Substack publications now include a MINIMUM of one product sold by a Black-owned business. (I have visited the seller’s official site, not just the Amazon Black-owned logo, to verify this.) If you still choose to boycott, I 100% respect that decision.
This month, I will also highlight a Black history video on my website for the next 28 days. I am purposely picking people I have never heard of instead of the ones everyone knows (who don't live in Florida). This way, I learn something new too.
I watched a few videos of Democrats standing up against Trump, and then it hit me how nice it was not to see nor hear the Attention Seeker in Chief. It was damn near therapeutic to see people in Congress calling him out whose name was not Rep. Jasmine Crockett. (I like hearing from her almost as much as R&B music. The soulful sounds of her fact-checking people is my favorite tune. 🎶)
I cannot change the election results. I cannot change 77,303,568 idiotic votes. What I can do is pay attention to what the other 75,019,257 are doing. And salute to older, white men who prove Trump can’t buy them all off.
After I finished reading a lot of content and watching a few videos, I realized an ongoing headache was gone and I was less furious than I have been since Election Day 2024. And it hit me. It might be more productive for me to pay attention to the people who are fighting back than to listen to the racist, bigoted, proud sexual assaulter. Block out the op the same way he’s trying to block out damn near anyone with a backbone who doesn’t nod and smile at his idiocy. So that’s how I plan to peacefully survive Black History Month — learning new history, giving my undivided attention to Congress members who fight back and buying Black-owned products to support Black-owned businesses.
